Meet Gretchen Hudock

Gretchen Hudock began sewing at the age of 10 under the direction of her mother. With three older sisters also sewing, the machine time was limited. An introductory course in Textiles while at the University of Wisconsin intrigued her enough to want to major in the field. "I did not know what I was going to do with the degree, but I was going to enjoy myself." Gretchen had never had an art course before attending college and discovered that art was time consuming but it did not seem like work. To this day, Gretchen loves creating and "playing" with fabric. The computer now helps in streamlining the design process.

Gretchen was introduced to quilting while watching public television. She began designing Christmas tree skirts; one thing led to another and Christmas quilts became her specialty. She has had many designs published nationally and been a guest on public television's Sewing with Nancy. Since 1995, Gretchen has been the quilting consultant for Nancy's Notions, where she designs catalog projects, tests new products, and promotes quilting wherever possible. Quick Quilts Using Quick Bias, published in 2002, was Gretchen's first book followed by Seasonal Quilts Using Quick Bias, published in 2004. Gretchen lives in Slinger, Wisconsin, with her husband, Rich. Their two children, John and Elizabeth, are out of college.

"I have truly been blessed to be able to do what I love to do as a job. It is wonderful to look forward to each work day."

Gretchen's Favorite Clover Tools:

Quick Bias, Mini Bias, Mini Iron (II), white marking pen, glass head quilting pins, ball pointed awl, fusible bias tape maker, twin pins.
